The Ethnic Business Awards are a celebration of the diversity and success of our nation. The Awards recognise those Australians – from the full range of cultural and ethnic backgrounds – who have achieved success in business. There is now a category for Indigenous Australians who are making their mark in business.
Award Category
Individual entries will be accepted in the following category:
- INDIGENOUS IN BUSINESS AWARD
ELIGIBILITY
- Entrants must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent.
- Entrants are required to provide evidence of their Aboriginality or Torres Strait Islander descent. Usually this evidence will consist of a statutory declaration completed by the applicant and a document executed by an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander organisation confirming that the applicant is recognised by his or her community as an Aboriginal person or Torres Strait Islander. However, applicants may be required to provide additional evidence if the usual evidence is not considered sufficient. Each entrant must complete a statutory declaration. As the statutory declaration requires the applicant to state that he or she is of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, some, or all of the applicant’s ancestor must be Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people. The declaration also requires the applicant to state that he or she identifies as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person and that he or she is recognised by his or her community as a person who is of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent.
- Entrants must be Australian citizens or hold permanent residency
- Entrants must hold and provide a registered Australian Business Number (ABN)
- Entrants must own the whole or part of the business nominated (where it is part, a minimum of 50% must be owned by a shareholder who is of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent)
- Entrants must be financially transparent with due diligence reporting structures
- Entrants must be of good name and character and must not have engaged, directly or indirectly in any conduct which in the opinion of the Ethnic Business Awards might discredit the Awards
- Entrants must comply with all Federal and State Government legislation and regulations and all relevant industry codes of practice
- If short-listed, entrants must agree to have their business and personal story made subject of a short minute documentary style presentation to be screened during the night of the gala presentation and subsequent broadcast to national and international television audiences
